Nantucket Reds - Bow Ties

I've been in touch with Murray's Toggery Shop on Nantucket Island about acquiring some real-deal Nantucket Red fabric.  What's your impressions of this prototype?  This was made from a thrifted pair of Polo Ralph Lauren reds.

Check out the website for Murray's Toggery Shop at (you guessed it) nantucketreds.com .  And be sure bone up on the History of Nantucket Reds while you're at it. If I understand it all correctly, reds are made out of sail cloth.  The only thing stranger than having trousers made of sail cloth, of course, is having a bow tie made of sail cloth.

Not sure. It gets pretty pricey if you go for yardage of the authentic stuff.

Any advice for someone looking to get a small amount of fabric in the nantucket red color? I love your thrifted bow ties but need a bit more to make a throw pillow. Happy for any guidance you can give!

I’m wearing a pair of reds as I write this, so of course I think it’s a great idea. It would make for a great summer bowtie.

A “Nantucket Red” would look great with a seersucker suit or a simple navy blazer. I like the color and how unique the fabric is.
